Research Today! Opportunistic behaviour in R&D alliances: Is technological breadth a double-edged sword?

Speaker: Dr Farazi Mohammad Saleh, Senior Lecturer, LSBU Business School.

This project studies opportunistic behaviour in biopharma R&D alliances by highlighting the role of each partner’s technological breadth. We posit that, on one hand, the technological breadth of the R&D partner enables it to divert resources to other unrelated projects at the expense of the client partner. On the other hand, the breadth of technological resources of the client better enables it to monitor the behaviour of the R&D partner. Using a sample of 157 alliances between 2006 and 2015 and taking “alliance size” as a proxy for the “fear of opportunistic behaviour”, we test and confirm our hypotheses.

Research Today! at LSBU Business School

It is a forum to foster collaboration and exchange among interested colleagues, visitors, collaborators and PhD students. We meet weekly during teaching term times.
