LSBU is proud to introduce the Professor Michael Lewis Annual Lecture series.

This lecture is kindly supported by alumnus Professor Michael Lewis MBE, and his wife Janina, to address current thinking on neurodiversity across the landscape of education and learning including special educational needs and disability support in order for individuals to thrive.

Barry Sheerman MP, the Labour and Co-operative Member of Parliament for Huddersfield will deliver the inaugural lecture; the second in a series of five. Formerly Chairman of the House of Commons Select Committee for Children, Schools, and Families, Barry Sheerman is also a passionate social entrepreneur having initiated over 30 different social enterprises over the past 20 year. These include the Westminster Autism Commission, The Westminster Commission for Road Air Quality, the Parliamentary Advisory Council on Transport Safety, and the John Clare Trust.

The Westminster Autism Commission is a cross-party, cross-sector group of Parliamentarians, autistic people, parents/carers, charities, academics and health professionals. They meet regularly in the Houses of Parliament to discuss topics of importance to the autism community and are currently undertaking an inquiry into the issue of fake cures/therapies for autism.

In this lecture, Barry Sheerman MP will address how his own work, and wider parliamentary action (including the work of the Westminster Autism Commission) has shifted perspective and addressed challenges to the lives and educations of people with autism. We hope that you will join us to be part of this important conversation and we look forward to seeing you there.

This event will be taking place in person with networking and refreshments available afterwards.
