Few sectors are able to leave a cultural and physical legacy like architecture

Our architects are creative, reflective, and resourceful - and highly capable of addressing the challenges of contemporary design, nationally, regionally, and internationally. Our degrees offer the professional awards of RIBA part 1, 2 and 3.

Qualifying and employability

In order to qualify as an architect, following successful completion of RIBA parts 1 and 2 you need to complete a minimum of two years' eligible professional experience, and then pass the final Professional Practice Examination (RIBA part 3). Architecture degrees at LSBU prepare you for future studies, and a fascinating career either as an architect, or in other design-related areas.

Graduates of BA (Hons) Architecture may apply for further study at postgraduate level on our Postgraduate Master in Architecture (RIBA Part 2) programme, or at any RIBA recognised school.

Architecture graduates from the BA (Hons) Architecture at LSBU have been accepted for further studies at prestigious national and international schools, including the Bartlett, the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, the Architectural Association, and the Royal College of Art.

The School's programmes of study are renowned across the built environment industry. Even when the economy has suffered, LSBU architecture graduates have proven resilient, and in demand by employers across a wide range of built environment activities.

We offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in architecture that are professionally validated by the RIBA, preparing architects for the RIBA part 3 Professional Practice examination (also available as part of our programme for those who have successfully completed RIBA parts 1 and 2).  We also offer a unique specialist Masters degree, which focuses on digital design and robotic fabrication in architecture.

We also offer other architectural related courses in our Division of Construction, Property and Surveying.

Our courses in architecture are fully validated by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), and prescribed by the Architects Registration Board (ARB).

LSBU maintains dedicated studio spaces and specialised equipment for architecture students. From expansive, bespoke working space for both undergraduate and postgraduate architecture students to sophisticated hardware supporting advanced digital design and fabrication, LSBU is helping to transform the architecture industry through students’ creative use of its facilities.

Architecture students’ dedicated studio space is near the top of the Keyworth Building. Meanwhile, architectural centres at LSBU act as a hub for innovation, networking among practice experts and the general promotion of adopting BIM principles, advanced computational design, structural and spatial simulations, and robotic fabrication.

Facilities case studies

  • Student in Design Studio

    Architecture Design Studio

Dedicated studio spaces with inspirational views across the London landscape are used to develop students' skills and train the next generation of architects.  The studios are used for individual tutorials, workshops, formal hand-drawing classes for first year students, seminars, and interim and final design juries, where students formally present their work to a panel of visiting guest critics drawn from all sectors of architecture and the fine arts.

  • floor plan model

    Building Information Modelling (BIM) Centre

BIM is a collaborative approach across the whole design team to managing and planning every aspect of design and operation in the construction process in a more efficient way to improve the basis upon which industry professionals and their clients operate.  The BIM Centre at LSBU acts as a hub for innovation, and professional training and networking amongst practice experts in the built environmental sector.

  • robotic arm

Digital Architecture and Robotic Lab (DARLAB)

DARLAB is advanced digital manufacturing robotic lab is designed for high-quality research, as well as developing commercial applications for architecture. The lab use an industrial robotic arms combined with several end effectors customized to carry out advanced manufacturing applications.
