Doorita Seerutten, alumna, BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance graduate

Doorita has always enjoyed mathematics and problem solving: a degree in Accounting and Finance has meant these interests are forming the basis for a career

London South Bank University (LSBU) was the "brightest choice" for Doorita Seerutten as the course structure fitted perfectly with both her professional and personal commitment. Her degree has provided her with a platform from which she is building her career, as well as the confidence to pursue her passions.

Student success

As a student on the BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance course, Doorita really made the most of her time with us. She had an active role in the Accounting and Finance Society and helped organise employability events for fellow students. She was also a course representative, and one of her highlights was winning the gold accredited certificate and university crest for this contribution – course representatives take student views to university management, so any issues or suggestions can be brought forward and addressed.

LSBU positively enhanced my personal development and opened up various pathways I could only have dreamt of. The staff provided me with the best support structure whenever I required it.

Unlocking potential

The opportunities for getting involved at LSBU meant that Doorita has exceeded her own expectations and she's involved in some leading humanitarian organisations – something she's always had a passion for.

"LSBU gave me the boost to pursue my passion for humanitarian issues. Being involved in various education campaigns, I was invited to be a global youth ambassador for A World at School - a global movement of young leaders working to get every child in school and learning."

Doorita is also making her mark on current affairs - she was selected to attend a week-long conference as a Young Diplomat as part of the Global Diplomatic Forum in London 2014. As a result she now makes regular visits to the Houses of Parliament.

Digital revolutionist

Doorita is currently working at the Royal Bank of Scotland as a banker and digital revolutionist. She's responsible for reviewing customer accounts to identify opportunities to promote the best products and services to meet their needs. Her degree was one of the main criteria for the role: "Attention to detail and analytical skills are key," she says.

"The knowledge gained from my degree translates practically which gives me the confidence to take on various challenges – and I thrive on challenges!"

Future hopes

A successful career in the financial sector beckons for Doorita, which she is only just beginning. She is looking forward to career progression, and to be more involved in humanitarian issues too. On the value of her degree she said: "A degree is definitely very strong ammunition to help me achieve my dreams and aspirations, particularly in a world where the competition for employment is becoming even fiercer."
