Angie Corkhill, BA (Hons) Business StudiesAngie's career has gone from strength to strength since she graduated from LSBU in 1999
Initially aided by a placement at The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), she rose through the ranks of one of the world's largest professional body of management accountants, and is now Director of Member Relations & Policy for the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA).
Considering finance was her worst subject during the course, Angie has reached great heights, "It's ironic really as my worst and least favourite subject during my BA in Business Studies at LSBU was the financial accounting module. I think I only scraped a pass in the management accounting module, thanks to my lecturer."
Angie's career began with a student placement at CIMA – the world's leading accounting body with a sole focus on business. This then led to a full-time position after graduating. "I started my career at CIMA as a placement student, organised by LSBU. After graduating, I went to work in CIMA's marketing department and then moved into international development about five years ago. I seem to have come a long way since organising graduate careers fairs in the UK!
Angie then made it to CIMA'S Regional Manager of Asia Pacific. Her job means she gets to travel extensively; "Singapore, Sydney, Beijing and Delhi are just some of the cities I visit regularly as Asia Pacific Regional Manager. My job involves establishing relationships with employers and alliance partners to build the CIMA brand in Asia, along with the general management of CIMA offices in the area."Angie found the travelling could be pretty gruelling and she missed her friends when she way away; her housemate is also an LSBU graduate and they've been friends for nearly 10 years now. But Angie is pleased about where she has got to so far and the opportunities she has. "I'm progressing fast and I've never needed to look back."
