Dr Suela Kellici is Senior Lecturer in Chemical Engineering, Postgraduate Research Coordinator for her School and head of the Nano2D group, part of the Advanced Materials Research Centre.

With a degree in Chemistry and PhD in Materials Chemistry from Queen Mary University of London, Dr Kellici is a highly interdisciplinary materials engineer with a passion in designing advanced functional nanomaterials (utilizing a target-oriented approach and clean technologies) that provide effective solutions to global challenges in the energy, biomedical and environmental applications.

She has made numerous leading contributions and has been awarded several prizes for her work as well as recipient of financial awards from various funding bodies (EPSRC, InnovateUK, Newton and industrial partners). Dr Kellici promotes access to higher education and women in STEM and is involved in coordinating/organising outreach activities for LSBU and externally. She is Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Dr Kellici’s is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Her current teaching involves the development of lectures, assessments and learning activities in principles of chemical engineering, green engineering and sustainability, chemistry, economics for engineers as well as advanced materials engineering and industrial chemical processes in Chemical & Petroleum Engineering for both undergraduate and postgraduate cohorts.

Her teaching includes:

  • Advanced Materials Engineering
  • Introduction to Chemical and Petroleum Engineering
  • Clean Technologies
  • Industrial Chemical Processes
  • Dissertation Supervision

Dr Kellici’s current research looks at synthetic approaches to make new advanced functional nanomaterials in a unique manner by using supercritical fluids with unusual properties for applications in biological imaging, antibacterial coatings, energy and environmental related applications. This takes an integrated approach covering synthesis through to characterization and composition to end applications.

We are always interested in new collaborations and opportunities and welcome informal discussions. We design materials using a target-oriented approach and are keen to explore new directions in addition to the existing ones.

Her research covers the following areas:

  • Nanomaterials (0D, 1D, 2D)
  • Graphene based nanocomposites
  • Quantum dots
  • Continuous Hydrothermal Flow Synthesis
  • Supercritical Fluids
  • Green Chemistry and Clean Technologies
  • High Throughput Nanomaterials Discovery
  • Member of Royal Society of Chemistry - MRSC
  • Science Technology and Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Ambassador
  • Member of UK Semiconductor Photochemistry Network
  • International Society for the Advancement of Supercritical Fluids (ISASF)
  • Fellow of Higher Education Academy
