Information about the School of the Built Environment and Architecture portfolio process

After submitting your application to LSBU for an Architecture course, your application will go through our pre-screening process. If successful, you’ll be contacted via email by our admissions team to request that you submit a digital portfolio. You will have 5 working days from the point of receiving the email to submit your portfolio.

Below you will find information on what to include and how to submit your digital portfolio.

What to include in your digital portfolio

Your portfolio should contain a maximum of 10 images that represent your creative and technical ability. It should be presented in a clear and coherent format and ordered according to type and style of work.

What we look for in a portfolio:

  • a balance between vocational and academic representation within your work that demonstrates your ability to observe, think and create
  • demonstration of conceptual and creative thinking, which represents the understanding of architecture and particular areas of interest in the field
  • work that demonstrates the understanding of three-dimensional form and spatial awareness, displaying the ability to convert 3-dimensional information into 2-dimensional representation
  • a broad range of examples in your skills and talents through the use of mixed media
  • work that represents your strongest skills - but avoid repeating examples of techniques and styles
  • analysis of colour form and space would be seen as a plus

Submitting your digital portfolio

Your portfolio needs to be submitted digitally. We recommend using wix.com, but will accept other platforms.

How to submit your portfolio using wix.com

  • If you do not already have an account, create an account by selecting ‘Get Started’, and sign up by inputting your email and password
  • select ‘Skip’ in the bottom right corner then select ‘Choose a Template’
  • select the ‘Portfolio & CV’ template and select your chosen design to edit
  • upload your relevant documents by selecting the ‘Media’ tab
  • once you are happy and have populated the template with your designs, select ‘Publish’ to publish your page

Send the URL link via email to our admissions team. Make sure you also include your LSBU/Student ID number or UCAS Personal ID, your full name as stated on the application, and your date of birth. Our admissions team will then share your portfolio with the relevant staff member to review

You will have 5 working days to complete this process.

It usually takes around 2-4 weeks for an academic to review your portfolio and for admissions to let you know the outcome of your application, however, during peak application periods this may take longer.

BA (Hons) Architectural Assistant Apprenticeship – Architecture

Course Director: Dele Olubodun

Portfolio information:

The portfolio should be a reflection of your creative and presentation skills, and should consist of images that represent your creative and technical ability, in particular work that demonstrates good three dimensional and spatial awareness, the ability to convert 3-dimensional information into a 2-dimensional representation. An analysis of colour form and space is a plus, as well as demonstration of conceptual and creative thinking, which represents the understanding of architecture and particular areas of interest in the field. You must also have an awareness of the relevant Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours associated with the Level 06 Architectural Assistant Apprenticeship.

BA (Hons) Architecture

Course Director: Angela Vanezi

Portfolio information:

The portfolio should be a reflection of your creative and presentation skills, and should consist of images that represent your creative and technical ability, in particular work that demonstrates good three dimensional and spatial awareness, the ability to convert 3-dimensional information into a 2-dimensional representation. An analysis of colour form and space is a plus, as well as demonstration of conceptual and creative thinking, which represents the understanding of architecture and particular areas of interest in the field.

MArch Architect Apprenticeship – Architecture

Course Director: Todor Demirov

Portfolio information:

Your portfolio should be an expression of your achievements during your RIBA Part I award, with a clear ability to generate design proposals developed from research and investigative techniques. Your portfolio should demonstrate a range of different drawing and communication methods, including photographs of your physical models, good technical, material and, construction knowledge, and understanding of the context of the architect in society.  You should be able to present the requisite skills of a RIBA Part I graduate and be able to reflect on your most creative work. Supplementary relevant UK based professional work must also be included, and your involvement in the projects clearly demonstrated.  Your portfolio should be no more than 25 pages and presented in a manner that best represents your creative skills and abilities.

MArch Architecture

Course Director: Todor Demirov
