How to apply
In order to secure an apprenticeship you need to:
- Find an employer that is willing to employ you in a relevant job role and support all aspects of your apprenticeship
- Meet all the LSBU entry requirements for your chosen programme
How to apply to LSBU
Find an apprenticeship you would like to do by looking at our website for those we offer or view current national vacancies. The process of applying depends on whether you have an employer to sponsor (and support) you.
If you are employed and your employer has confirmed they will support your apprenticeship:
You are welcome to submit an application via our online application system. You’ll need to provide details of your employment/employer as part of the application. You will need to ensure you and your employer meet the requirements – see who can be an apprentice.
If you are not employed:
- You will need to find a job role related to the apprenticeship you wish to apply for with an employer who is happy to support you with your apprenticeship.
- If you would like to find an employer to support your apprenticeship with LSBU, you can search which employers are currently advertising Apprenticeships via the National Apprenticeship Service website searching for ‘London South Bank University’ as keywords.
- If there are no search results, this means there are currently no vacancies. We update our vacancies regularly, so please do check back regularly.
- Many employers advertise their apprenticeship vacancies on their websites or via other portals. You could search for ‘find an apprenticeship’ online.

Apprenticeships offered by LSBU
We offer apprenticeships at higher and degree level in a wide range of subject areas including Engineering, Housing, Management, Health, Digital and Construction. How do I choose the right apprenticeship?
How do I find out which employers are recruiting apprentices?
You’ll need to be employed to do an Apprenticeship; typically you’ll be working in a relevant job four days a week, and studying with us, your training provider, 1 day per week. To see which employers are offering apprenticeships, check the National Apprenticeship Service website, employer websites and search online ‘find an apprenticeship’ for other portals that advertise apprenticeship vacancies.
You can also approach an employer yourself and ask whether they would like to offer an apprenticeship. You’ll need to explain which apprenticeship you’re interested in. If a company would like to offer an apprenticeship, the process can be lengthy, as they may need to create new processes, so it’s best to contact a company quite far in advance. If you have found a company that wants more information about apprenticeships please refer them to our apprenticeships section for businesses.
Does LSBU have employers that have an apprenticeship vacancy? Or can you recommend some?
Some of the employers that we have vacancies with are listed on the National Apprenticeship Service website. You can find those offering an Apprenticeship with us by searching ‘London South Bank University’. If no results appear, there are no current vacancies. Remember this is continually updated, so please check back to see when new vacancies are added. Other employers advertise on their own websites or via other portals. Search online ‘find an apprenticeship’.
If you are not employed, you may contact companies to find out if they are considering taking on apprentices - or check their websites for vacancies. You could make a speculative application. The crucial part is that you will need to be employed in a related role. For example, to do a Nursing apprenticeship, you need to be employed in the industry first, so you could look at the NHS website or local healthcare provider for vacancies.
What if I don't meet the LSBU entry requirements?
The entry requirements vary by Apprenticeship Standard; for example, some of our Apprenticeship Standards require BBC at A level. If you do not meet the entry requirements but feel you have experience which may support your application, you are welcome to apply and this may be taken in to consideration by the admissions tutor at LSBU. However, there is an exception to this in terms of Maths and English level 2 (GCSE grade C / grade 4 or above) – these are required.
What happens if I don't have my Maths and English GCSEs?
We are required to provide evidence to the Educations Skills Funding Agency that you have the sufficient qualifications to go through certain stages of the apprenticeship and that you meet these requirements before you take your End Point Assessment (EPA). This includes the achieving your English and Maths GCSE grade C/grade 4 or above, or Functional Skills Level 2 before starting the apprenticeship programme.

What is the deadline date for LSBU applications?
If you are applying for an Apprenticeship Standard via the National Apprenticeships Service website, there will be a closing date listed with the vacancy.
If you are in employment and your employer is happy to support you to complete an Apprenticeship Standard, you will need to check the programme start date for the application deadline. Most programmes have a September start date, though some have multiple intakes. More information about the programme start date can be found on the relevant apprenticeship standard page itself.
Remember to allow time for us to process your application - we recommend applying a minimum of six weeks in advance of the start of your programme, although your application will still be considered if you apply later than this.
