Sandie Woods is a Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy in the School of Health and Social Care. She is also Course Director and Senior Lecturer for the FdSc Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care (Rehabilitation Therapy). She is module leader for undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Occupational Therapy and Rehabilitation Therapy involved in teaching and learning at academic level 4, 5, 6 and 7, including interprofessional modules. Enabling approaches, inclusion, equality, health promotion, self-management, independence and well-being are evident in the range of modules she delivers. She supervises students undertaking MSc and MA dissertations and is a member of the School of Health and Social Care ethics committee.

Her expertise in promoting mental health for older people has been influential in her engagement with working parties, publications and research. As a member of the Dementia Working Party and Research Working Party she has been actively involved in the development of the curriculum, sharing good practice, and working collaboratively towards the vision of making LSBU the top modern university for Health and Social Care by 2020. As a dementia champion, member of the dementia working party at LSBU and the London regional Alzheimer’s Dementia Champions Forum, she has delivered Dementia Friends information sessions to students in health and social care with the goal of creating a dementia friendly university. Her recent publications (book chapters and journal articles) reflect her interests in the field of dementia care. Her doctoral research (EdD) is in the field of disability studies including the experience of dementia champions and educational provision.

Since receiving the award of Senior Fellow with The Higher Education Academy she has been mentoring and supporting staff preparing for the award of fellow or senior fellow. She has recently completed a service evaluation of a coaching and mentoring scheme in a large London Trust, as a member of a research group at LSBU.
