Professor Basu Saha has been working as a Professor of Chemical and Process Engineering at London South Bank University (LSBU) since 2010. Prior to joining LSBU, he worked in the Chemical Engineering department of Loughborough University as a Post-doctoral Research Associate, Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and Reader in Chemical Engineering for about 14 years. He was awarded a Royal Academy of Engineering Industrial Secondment with Syngenta Ltd in Huddersfield, UK to study the kinetics and chemical reaction engineering aspects for the industrially practised catalytic processes. He has been working in the UK academia about 24 years. He is recognised as a leading expert in his field and has been appointed as a Visiting Professor in the University of Barcelona, Spain; Saga University, Japan and University of Burgos, Spain.

He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng), a Fellow of The Institution of Chemical Engineers (FIChemE), a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). He is an Editorial Board Member of Green Processing and Synthesis Journal, Advisory Board Member of Reaction Chemistry and Engineering Journal (RSC) and Editorial Board Member of Energies and Reactions Journals.

Professor Saha has wide experience in teaching UG and PG Chemical Engineering courses at both Loughborough University and LSBU. As the Director of Postgraduate Studies (taught programme) in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Loughborough University, he had successfully developed a new MSc programme, “Advanced Chemical Engineering with IT and Management”. He was also Programme Co-ordinator for MSc “Advanced Process Engineering” and “Advanced Chemical Engineering with IT and Management” programmes in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Loughborough University (2005 – 2010). He was a member of the Courses and Teaching Committee, Undergraduate Course Director, Chair of Staff Student Committee and Director of Postgraduate Studies (taught programme) at Loughborough University.

He was involved in the curriculum modernisation programme for Chemical Engineering subject group at LSBU. He has extensive experience in preparing IChemE accreditation documents for Chemical Engineering programmes at both Loughborough University and LSBU along with other colleagues in the division. As an IChemE Accreditation Assessor and board member for Education and Accreditation Forum (EAF), he is actively involved in professional accreditation of Chemical Engineering degree programmes in the UK and overseas universities.

He acts as an External Examiner for the Chemical Engineering UG and Masters courses at both University of Hull and Canterbury Christ Church University.

Professor Saha’s research focuses on innovative greener and sustainable processes and renewable and sustainable energy solutions for which he has established an international reputation. He was a Visiting Professor in the University of Barcelona, Spain; Saga University, Japan and University of Burgos, Spain. He received “Jewel of India” or “Hind Rattan” award in 2020 in recognition of his outstanding services and scholarly achievements in Chemical Engineering. He is an Editorial Board Member of Green Processing and Synthesis Journal, Advisory Board Member of Reaction Chemistry and Engineering Journal (RSC) and Editorial Board Member of Energies and Reactions Journals.

His research has been supported by MarRI-UK Research & Innovation, The British Council, Newton Institutional Links Fund, EPSRC CO2-Chem Network, The Royal Society, EPSRC, the European Union (EU), European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), GCRF (Co-I), The Royal Academy of Engineering, the Spanish, Nigerian, Malaysian and Pakistan Governments, Knowledge Transfer Collaboration (KTC) and industry. He has worked in collaboration with various industries on several industrially important projects. He was awarded a Royal Academy of Engineering Industrial Secondment with the Process Technology Group of Syngenta Ltd in Huddersfield, UK to study the kinetics and chemical reaction engineering aspects for the industrially practised catalytic processes. He won a prestigious “Royal Society Brian Mercer Feasibility Award” for developing an innovative epoxidation process technology.

He has trained over 20 PhD students, 9 post-doctoral researchers, and is currently supervising 5 PhD students.
