Karen Sanders is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Adult and Midwifery Nursing in the School of Health and Social Care.

She became a Registered General Nurse in 1983 and joined the University as a Senior Lecturer in 1995, after working in clinical practice for 11 years. Prior to joining, she specialised as a Lecturer Practitioner in Intensive Care Nursing (including Neurosciences and Cardiac surgery), in several large Intensive Care settings. These were large teaching hospitals situated throughout England

  • Critical Reasoning in Clinical Practice

Karen is the lead link lecturer and has five clinical link wards at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. She has been a Registered Nurse Teacher since 1994 and was awarded MA Teaching Health Care Ethics at the University of London, Institute of Education in 2000. She has also been a member of the University Faculty Research Ethics Committee since 2010.

Karen is a member of the Royal College of Nursing and has undertaken several roles over the last 20 years, including the chair of the Ethics Forum, member of the Ethics Advisory Panel. She is presently a member of the London Regional Board and the London Region representative on the UK Learning Representatives Committee, where she is also the vice chair.

Karen is a Member of the Health Sciences and Practice Ethics Special Interest Group - Higher Education Academy.

Karen has been a member of the Guy's Hospital Research Ethics Committee since 2006.

She has spoken at Healthcare Conferences addressing Professional, Ethics and Legal issues in Clinical Practice including best interest decision-making and end of life issues including assisted dying.

Over the last three years Karen has been, and continues to be a volunteer at two Healthcare Centres in slum areas of Nairobi, Kenya. She also played a role in the setting up of one of the Health Centres during 2011 - 2012.
