Joanna Hedges is a Lecturer in Events and Entertainment in the Department of Urban, Environment and Leisure Studies. Joanna previously worked with LSBU as a Guest Lecturer and for the University of Westminster as a Visiting Lecturer.

Joanna comes from a professional industry background having worked previously as a Festival Director, Events and Production Manager, freelance Producer and Consultant. Joanna’s professional experience has spanned across a number of events industry sectors, however her main focus has been in the development and management of arts, cultural and community events. She was previously Events Manager for Brighton Fringe England’s Largest Arts Festival and has worked as Event Director for Nowhere Festival in Spain, as Festival Director for SouthWestFest, South Westminster’s Award Winning Cultural Community Festival, and as Executive Producer for Women Centre Stage Theatre Festival. Joanna has also worked as a senior producer for major commercial event agencies and third sector campaign organisations.

Joanna’s main areas of teaching are Events Management and Operations, Events Strategy, Health and Safety, Creative Producing, Critical Events Studies, Cultural Event Development, Event Tourism, Major and Mega Events, Community Events and Place Making Events.

Joanna is a member of the Institute of Leadership and Management.

Joanna continues to steer SouthWestFest, Westminster’s award-winning festival, working with a team of trustees, associate artists and producers to curate an annual cultural community festival programme. Joanna also offers independent consultancy in events development and strategy, and gives talks and professional training in development, fundraising and other event industry areas. Her personal interests include producing and directing immersive performance, theatre and circus events and shows.
