Carolyn qualified as an Adult Nurse in 1991, having previously worked as a Nursery Nurse. Owing to her experience with children, she was able to gain her first Staff Nurse post on a Children's Ward.

In 1994 Carolyn went to Birmingham Children's Hospital to train as a Children's Nurse and after completing a shortened course, returned to work in her District General Hospital, gaining experience in general paediatrics, surgery and community. During this time Carolyn successfully completed a BSc in Health and Social Care.

Carolyn progressed to more senior roles within Children's Services and in 2001 commenced as a Lecturer in Children's Nursing at Anglia Ruskin University. Within this role Carolyn gained wide experience in teaching and learning, curriculum development and the student experience. Carolyn completed her NMC teacher qualification which led to a Master's Degree in Learning and Teaching which she completed in 2012.

Carolyn started at LSBU in January 2014. She primarily teaches on the Pre-registration programme and is current cohort leader for the September 2014 Children's Nursing intake.

Carolyn teaches on the BSc (Hons) Children's Nursing programme across the year groups and cohorts.

Carolyn is currently involved in a research project with one of the local Trust areas.

As part of her Master's Degree Carolyn undertook a small study that considered Pre–registration Children's Nurses views on Clinical Skills teaching within their curriculum.
