Pride flag against the sky

London South Bank University (LSBU) has been recognised as one of the best places to work in higher education for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people by charity Stonewall

LSBU maintains a robust position in Stonewall's annual Workplace Equality Index, the UK's leading tool for helping employers gauge how inclusive their workplaces are.

LSBU's voluntary participation in the programme reflects its commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace. The University is now ranked 92nd of all employers who took part, and 12th in the education sector.

"This is an outstanding result that reflects LSBU's proud history of creating opportunities for people regardless of background," says Ian Mehrtens, LSBU Chief Operating Officer and executive sponsor for diversity and inclusion.

Embracing and integrating equality and diversity is fundamental to our success and aspirations for the future, and our continued rise in the Stonewall Index reflects how our efforts to empower staff and support networks are helping to create a more diverse working environment at LSBU.

LSBU has an active sexual orientation and gender identity staff network, SONET. "This ranking is testament to all the SONET members who work so hard to make our network such a success," says Terry Eastham, chair of LSBU's SONET staff network.

LSBU has been in the index for several years. Six per cent of LSBU's workforce shared that they were lesbian, gay or bisexual in response to an anonymous staff survey as part of the submission.
