Student Recruitment

LSBU is committed to supporting applicants who may believe that university is not relevant to them. This is often because there is little or no history of other family members engaging in Higher Education (HE).

We enable young people and adults to find ways round or over barriers that stand in their way to success. We are particularly keen to encourage those who are under represented in HE; often care leavers, people with disabilities and those from other minority groups.

Widening Participation at LSBU

Young people are just some of our community who benefit from Student Recruitment in action at LSBU

Our teams

Our engagement work is carried out across our two specialist teams.

School and Colleges Liaison

Through our engagement with local schools and colleges we prepare young people to make informed and confident choices about their progression. Mentoring, visits to our University, school-based projects and week-long summer schools are all on offer. In particular, we support current vocational students by showing them the opportunities available to them once they have continued their course at university.

Community Engagement

As a university we have always been at the heart of our local community. This allows our Community Engagement team to work in partnership with a wide range of public, voluntary and community sector organisations. We host conferences and workshops, public lectures and a community cinema. Every year we mark international and national campaigns including Black History Month, International Women's Day and Adult Learners' Week with free public events. We also publish our newsletter, Communiversity, three times a year.

Student Ambassadors

A number of our students act as HE ambassadors and as student ambassadors who are essential to the work that we do. We train around 100 new student ambassadors each year. They work with us and other parts of the University to engage in outreach activity.
