LSBU's Student Theatre Company works with directors to stage full-length productions of major works. This years Autumn/Winter season opens with Welcome to Thebes by Moira Buffini

The world is chaos. Political upheaval. People are scared. Random acts of violence flood the streets and yet another war is precariously looming, if those who govern tread the tiniest miss-step in leading their people.

Welcome to Thebes re-imagines a Greek classic in an eerily relevant contemporary Thebes. Is Thebes simply a setting for classical, mythological stories? Or is it closer to home? How real is it? Are we living there now, or will we be in the near future?

Aled Pedrick, Director

Aled trained as an actor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and has been fortunate enough to juggle a varied career as performer, director and writer.

As director and associate, he has worked extensively with The Welsh National Theatre, as well as Theatre Clwyd, Sherman Cymru and Shared Experience. Aled also works regularly at Guildhall, Actors' Studio, Pinewood and Histrio House. He has also been associate director for National Youth Theatre of Wales since 2014.

Aled was thrilled to have his first play, "On The Line", play at the Arcola last year, before playing at the Merge Festival.

This amateur production of “Welcome to Thebes” is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, LTD.

First performance – 20 October

Welcome to Thebes will play over two days, your first chance to catch the performance is Friday 20 October.
