Sir Peter Thornton QC's lecture will provide a fascinating insight into the complicated legal and human issues surrounding death investigation

LSBU is pleased to welcome Sir Peter Thornton QC to the university. Peter Thornton QC was one of the most eminent criminal advocates of his generation working from Doughty Street Chambers. He was instructed as counsel for the defence in many notorious criminal cases.

He was a appointed a Senior Circuit Judge in 2007 sitting at the Central Criminal Court trying the most serious cases in the criminal calendar. In 2012 he was appointed the first Chief Coroner for England and Wales.

Extra judicially he has actively been involved in academic and practitioner writing on civil liberties and human rights; public order and is a contributor to the leading Practitioner text Archbold Criminal Practice. He is a visiting Professor at King’s College London. He was knighted in the 2017 for services to the administration of justice.
