Sustainability

One of the most important issues we all face is the future of our planet. We can all contribute to sustainability at home and at work. London South Bank University is committed to reducing its impact on the environment and investing in its human and social capital. To ensure this we have created the Sustainable Development Group (SDG).

SDG mission statement

To improve the sustainable development of the University by promoting and supporting the implementation of relevant sustainable measures and increasing awareness amongst all LSBU stakeholders.

Our approach to sustainable development

The SDG will help the University engage with the sustainable development agenda and support the institution's commitment to the Copernicus Charter, which the Vice Chancellor signed in 2004. Under new European Union regulations universities will soon have to display certificates declaring the carbon footprint of every major building on campus or face fines so we can't get away from the fact that it's time to take sustainability very seriously.

Through the SDG we aim to increase the environmental awareness of our staff and students and to promote the University's contribution towards sustainable development through curriculum, research and consultancy, estates and facilities management, governance and interaction with the wider community.

Working together

Our staff and students are working together to ensure our sustainable development

Being sustainable is not just about saving resources and the planet for future generations. It affects every aspect of our lives and the lives of others. People need to be sustainable and we all need to keep well, fit and active and so wellbeing is an important part of keeping our life sustainable.
