Souleyman Messalti, BA Hons Multimedia Journalism
Souleyman has always been curious about the world—using journalism and photography to capture it. After university he wants to start his own magazine
"The best thing about studying at LSBU is the diversity of my degree," he says. "I've worked on a website, photography, podcasts and a documentary. It's not just theoretical and it means I can keep my options open."
Souleyman is making the most of his time at university by taking on extracurricular projects and internships to enhance his employability.
"My first internship was with a photographer in France. I have also been working for a French–English magazine called BBB midi for more than a year."
Most recently, he interned at Made in Shoreditch magazine—a publication he has long admired.
"I had always liked the range of articles and photographs featured. Also, as a big fan of Shoreditch, I particularly liked the local aspect of the magazine. I was really happy when they wanted me as a contributor!"
In his spare time Souleyman documents the 'humans of London city'—portraits of London through its people, inspired by Brandon Stanton's similar journal of NYC—in a blog which now has more than 3,000 followers.
'Real world' experience and networks like these are invaluable and Souleyman hopes his LSBU degree will help him make a career of photojournalism.
"I'm confident I can do this," he says. "The contacts I've made, both on my course and through my internships, are providing a great foundation for the future."
