
The Elite Sports Programme is run by the Academy of Sport at LSBU to support talented sportsmen and women balance their sporting, academic and personal lives. The programme has become one of the largest for a UK University. It offers a wide range of help from financial to academic, making it possible for students to complete their education and succeed in their sport at a high level.

The programme welcomes applications from all talented sports people studying at LSBU.
This is for the Academy's Focus Sports (Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball and Combat Sports). Athletes wishing to apply must be high level performers or show promising potential.
Basketball is one of our focus sports and our men's team were 2008 national champions
This group contains high level performers with potential and a strong professional profile. If you meet this criteria and are not competing in one of the Academies focus sports (see above) you will be eligible for bursary support.
The criteria for this group is as followed;
The above criteria may vary if you are an international athlete. Your nationality will be taken into account and your performance level will be assessed in comparison to a GB athlete.
The Applicants that compete in one of the universities focus sports will be prioritised for funding. However, applications for all other sports are considered and are also actively encouraged. These applications will be considered on a case by case basis.
As a scholar you will be expected to compete for the University in relevant competitions. These competitions include British University and College Sports (BUCS) leagues and championships and the World University Games where appropriate. In addition, members are expected to contribute to their Athletic Union club, maintain or improve their sporting performance and academic progress and at times, promote the sporting profile of the University and to attend other promotional events held by the wider Academy.
Members of the Elite Sports Programme are eligible to receive up to £3000 financial support each year. The level of funding will depend on performance, potential and professional profile.
Members of the programme can be eligible for an amount of free Sports Science Support in the Human Performance Centre (HPC) at the University. The HPC offers support in Sports Physiology, Sports Biomechanics, Sports Psychology, Sports Nutrition and Strength and Conditioning.
All programme members are entitled to a certain amount of free Elite Programme sports kit.
Elite Sports Programme members may qualify to be assigned a personal liaison officer (or mentor) within the University who acts as a link between the athlete, the academic department and University authorities who seek to be flexible in balancing the athlete's sporting and academic commitments. This free service is worth a minimum of £100 per year.
London South Bank University has experienced chartered physiotherapists based on site in the Sports Centre. Members are eligible to receive up to a 50% discount for this service.
The Academy of Sport co-ordinates a series of talks and workshops on sports related topics such as 'Injury Prevention' or 'Goal Setting'. All members of the programme are able to access these talks for free.
All programme members are entitled to free access to University's Sports Facilities, including the Fitness Suite and Free Weights training facility.
All programme members are entitled to free Sports & Societies Membership which entitles Members to join any of the Student Union's Sports Clubs for the year as well as comprehensive sports accident insurance through Endsleigh.
