The founder and leader of BiMEC, Prof Mohammad Ghavami, has been very successful in developing its multi-disciplinary proficiency. His expertise lies in the areas of UWB technology, adaptive and smart antenna, wireless sensor networks, telecommunication systems for healthcare applications. He has published over 150 papers, two books and 3 US patents on various areas of UWB systems, smart antennas, wireless technologies and tele-health applications.
Our members have attracted millions of pounds of recent funding from bodies such as InnovateUK and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).
Mohammad Ghavami is Professor of Telecommunications Engineering and the founder and leader of BiMEC research group. His research interests include UWB, smart antenna systems and biomedical applications of wireless technology.
Tasos Dagiuklas’ research interests lie in the area of smart Internet technologies including open-based networking, digital-immersive media, cloud-computing, QoE Modeling-Management and Internet of Everything. He has over 130 publications including books and book chapters, journal articles and conference publications.
Dr Antonio Vilches is an electronics engineer with a device, circuits and systems background. His expertise is in device modelling, circuit design, autonomous systems, robotics, electronic materials and devices, and human computer interaction.
Dr Zhang's research interests include ultrahigh-speed all-optical communication systems, photonic switching networks, avionics optical fiber data buses/LANs, gain-switched semiconductor lasers, femtosecond mode-locked fiber lasers, and address code design for optical code-division multiple access (OCDMA).
Dr Manik Gupta is a lecturer in machine learning at LSBU, her interest areas include data analysis and application of machine learning techniques for sense-making
Dr Iqbal specialises in mobile cloud computing and open-based networking with interests in 5G technologies, multimedia cloud computing, mobile edge computing, fog computing, Internet of Things, software-defined networking, network function virtualisation, quality of experience, and cloud infrastructures and services.
Dr Xiao's research focuses on the development of novel infrared and electronic sensing technologies for skin measurements and industrial Non-Destructive Testing. He is also a director and co-founder of Biox Systems Ltd, a university spin-out company, which designs and manufactures AquaFlux (trans-dermal water loss measurements) and Epsilon (capacitive imaging).
Safia is a business IT Pathway Leader and Informatics Placement coordinator, actively looking for placement links with potential employers.
Sandra specialises in the areas of radio and optical communication system design, assistive living and sensor systems and is a member of the School Academic Standards Committee.
Prof. Patel's specialist areas include Information Systems, Cognitive Informatics, Change Management, Organisational Behaviour and Qualitative Research. She chairs the Ethics Committee and joined the LSBU Board of Governors in 2012.
