If you're in care or have left care recently and are wondering what your next step could be then we can help. Our dedicated team are here if you're interested in applying to London South Bank University (LSBU) and you'll be offered a range of support once you're here. We've been awarded the Frank Buttle Trust Quality Mark as an institution that goes the extra mile to support students from public care.

What we offer Care Leavers

We have developed a number of ways to support and benefit Care Leavers who study at LSBU. This includes:

  • a Care Leavers' bursary of £750 and up to £1,000 travel allowance at the beginning of each academic year. Visit our Fees and Funding website for details of the financial help we offer Care Leavers.
  • a dedicated link person, our Student Advice Worker, who will act as a single point of contact up to and after enrolment
  • help with accessing all the University's support services
  • year-round accommodation where Care Leavers can stay during the holidays.
  • an academic mentor

Care professionals

If you work with Looked After Children or Care Leavers we can arrange university visits specifically designed for them. Contact Mark Ellis, Senior Manager, Schools and Partnerships for more details. Email mark.ellis@lsbu.ac.uk or call 020 7815 6783.

Our innovative Care Leaver Outreach Project, City Opportunities, which won a London Education Partnership Award in 2011, is run in collaboration with the City of London Economic Development Office. The week-long project introduces Care Leavers to opportunities for local young people in the city of London and is run three times a year.

Full student support

We offer a range of learning, emotional and financial support for all our students. Find out more about how our student support can improve your LSBU experience.
