We work closely with school and college students, teachers and parents to promote the benefits of Higher Education and studying at London South Bank University (LSBU) in particular. By engaging with local young people we prepare them to make informed and confident choices about their futures. We spend time with them, working on projects such as individual mentoring, supervising visits to our University, setting school-based projects and running week-long summer schools.
We organise a range of activities and projects to raise young people's aspirations and achievements. LSBU is committed to supporting applicants who may believe university is not relevant to them. Often this is because there has been little or no family history of going into Higher Education (HE). We help young people find ways round these barriers and are particularly keen to encourage those under-represented in HE; often care leavers, people with disabilities and those from other minority groups. We recruit around 50 new Student Ambassadors each year. Much of their work takes place on campus but a number of them help local young people prepare for their futures by becoming HE Ambassadors. By engaging in outreach activity, they share their own experiences about how they came to University, encouraging others to take advantage of the benefits gained from HE. They are fully trained and CRB checked.
