Whether you're leaving school or seeking a change of career we're here to help you fulfil your dreams. To come to university you'll need to have the potential to succeed and an interest in furthering your education. If that sounds like you then we'd like to hear from you.
Our courses are split into 2 main areas:
Undergraduates applying for any of our Undergraduate Degrees, Foundation Degrees or HNC/D courses will typically need to have GCSE passes in 5 subjects at Grade C or above including English Language and Mathematics, (some courses require GCSE passes in other specified subjects, so do check the specific course for details. We also accept a pass in the Key Skills Qualification at Level 2 in place of GCSE English and Mathematics).
In addition to meeting the above, for each of our undergraduate courses we typically desire a certain amount of UCAS Tariff points. Due to the growing popularity of our courses, with a 25 per cent rise in under graduate applications in 2010, please be aware that the University is revising its UCAS Tariff point entry requirements for some undergraduate programmes commencing in September 2011. The new entry tariffs may differ from those in the current 2010/2011 prospectus, therefore please check our online course search for the updated tariff points required for the course you are interested in. All qualifications achieved at a level comparable to GCE 'A' Level or BTEC Nationals can be included within this total.
Our postgraduates come here via many different routes. While most applicants normally require a first degree (usually at least a 2:2), we do recognise that many people have a wealth of valuable skills and knowledge developed through their time at work. We assess this prior learning and take it into account when judging whether a student should be exempt from certain course units.
We offer specialised support to any students who attend LSBU with a background of being in care. Read our online details for Care Leavers.
If you don't have these formal qualifications but have the ability and ambition to study a degree or diploma then an Extended Degree or Foundation Course could be for you. Successfully completing this course guarantees you a place on the most relevant courses offered by LSBU so you can further your studies here.
We also consider applications from those who have gained relevant skills through a wide range of vocational qualifications or responsible experience. You should describe your relevant skills and qualities in the Personal Statement section of the UCAS application form. For some subjects you may be asked to take an entry test in maths and/or English.
If you choose to study at LSBU your application will be sent to one of our Admissions Tutors. It's their job to decide whether they can offer you a place from simply reading your application or whether they'd like to find out more about you by inviting to attend an interview.
Before offering you a place our Admissions Tutors need to be satisfied that you will be able to study at our required level and that you'll be able to fulfil the course's objectives. All of the information contained on your application, including your past academic performance, predicted grades and personal statement, along with any other evidence of your skills, aptitude and potential will be considered as part of the process.
