LSBU teams up with The Student Room to clear up confusion over Clearing

London South Bank University has created a set of five informative video guides - entitled 'The C Word' - to help students understand how the Clearing process works and what to do if they find themselves applying for a place at university through Clearing this year.

LSBU and The Student Room commissioned a survey in which 1,000 A level students were asked various questions relating to Clearing. The results showed that almost half of students asked were confused about the Clearing process. Nearly 90 per cent of people asked did not know that you can use Clearing and apply to a different university, if you got better grades than expected.

The survey also showed that the changes to the 2012 application process have not filtered through to students, as only 3 per cent of students asked were aware that universities can now accept an unlimited number of students with AAB grades or higher.

To combat the confusion surrounding Clearing, LSBU and The Student Room have created 'The C Word': five informative video guides which include student vox pops and advice from Clearing experts from the University and The Student Room.

Lynn Grimes, Director of Marketing and UK Student Recruitment at the University, says: "Clearing can be a very nerve-wracking process, and the myths and confusion that surround it only add to this anxiety.

"We see ourselves as an authority on this topic and are determined to make sure this year's Clearing as simple and stress-free as possible. We've teamed up with The Student Room to create a set of bite sized online guides called 'The C Word' to make sure students are well- equipped for the possibility of Clearing when they open their results."

Jamie O'Connell, Marketing Director at The Student Room, said: "We can see from this research and the discussions on The Student Room website that clearing baffles many prospective university students. It's vitally important that students are aware that clearing is not the end of the world and that with a bit of forward planning they can make the right decisions about their future, no matter what happens on results day.

"Working with a university to produce these quick and easy video guides has enabled us to continue to provide the best support for students looking to go to uni this year, whether they get into their first choice, insurance choice or through adjustment and clearing."
