London South Bank University has reaffirmed its status as a leading provider of high quality nursing and midwifery education.
The quality of courses, teaching and calibre of healthcare professionals it produces have been praised in an independent assessment.
LSBU is the best education provider in the capital for midwifery - moving up two places from the previous year's ranking - according to NHS London, which funds nursing courses at local institutions.
Other highlights include being the second best institution in London for teaching mental health nursing and occupational therapy and the third best for teaching nursing for people with learning disabilities.
The University also achieved the highest available rating for its continuing personal and professional development courses - thereby playing its part in driving up clinical standards and clinical leadership across London.
Professor Judith Ellis, Executive Dean for the Health and Social Care Faculty at LSBU, said: "We offer a vibrant range of nursing and midwifery programmes with a long-standing reputation for excellence - and are pleased that the results of the assessment reaffirm this.
"Through our partnership working with the NHS we ensure that those who study nursing and midwifery at the University have the skills, knowledge and personal attributes required to provide patients with the high-quality care they expect and deserve."
She added: "Over 95% of our pre-registration students quickly find employment and our post-registration graduates go on to successfully specialise or progress in their chosen areas of practice."
NHS London's contract performance management assessment focuses on a number of key areas - including the ongoing development of course programme content and the number of qualifiers from courses compared with the number commissioned.
*Places are still available for the PgDip Nursing programmes in adult nursing, children's nursing and mental health nursing for September 2012 entry. The graduate entry programmes offer an accelerated route for graduates with a relevant health or science-related honours degree.
