Healthcare Buildings for Tomorrow: Developing a 2020 Vision

This is a report of a seminar held at the BMA in 1999 for the Nuffield Trust. The seminar focused on developing a vision for the design of environments for health care in the next century. Central to this vision for 2020 is the concept of a network of healthcare environments with the patient at the centre of modern dependable services, customised to local health and environmental needs.

50 Years of Ideas in Healthcare Buildings

This book commemorates the achievements of 50 years of ideas for the design of buildings for healthcare, since the establishment of the NHS in the UK. The book focuses on key ideas that have been influential in healthcare design. Within a UK contextual framework of changing ideas and knowledge in medicine, architecture, building, society and healthcare policy, four viewpoints have been developed: the role of research and development; the impact of the systems and standards programme; the interaction of theory and practice; and a review of current ideas about health building design.

Designing Primary Care Premises: a resource

This book is intended as a resource to provide GPs with indications, signposts and guidance on how to effectively work with architects in ensuring that any primary care facilities are appropriate, effective and meet both the present and future needs of GPs in delivering high quality services. The book has been designed as a series of questions and issues to allow GPs and their staff to discuss a range of important issues which need to be resolved at the planning and design stage.
