Interactive 3D model of human anatomy.

Core Bibliographic E-resources

ASSIA [electronic resource].
ASSIA (Applied Social Sciences Index and Abstracts). Covers English language journals in applied social sciences. Includes health, economics, social issues & social policy, organisational behaviour and communication.

CINAHL [electronic resource].
Cinahl indexes over 1600 nursing and allied health journals, and has an international coverage. It is updated weekly. This is the best database to use for an in-depth search, although we do not have access to all the journals covered.

HMIC Health Management (formerly Helmis) [electronic resource].
Via Ovid. Combines databases of Department of Health from 1983, Kings Fund from 1979 and Nuffield Institute for Health (HELMIS) from 1984 to provide comprehensive research.

Background Bibliographic E-resources

Autism Data [electronic resource].
Autism data, from the National Autistic Society, lists over 17,000 published research papers, books, articles, videos and other materials. The contents include bibliographic records of all the items in The National Autistic Society Information Centre Library, together with the details of research articles on autism published in journals which are not part of our holdings.

British Nursing Index (BNI) [electronic resource].
Provides references to journal articles, some conference papers and major reports on aspects of education and training, from the UK and some English language international titles. Starts in 1976 and covers all levels and ages.

Centre for Reviews and Dissemination [electronic resource].
CRD produces and promotes the use of research based knowledge in health and social care. It enables you to search the Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects (DARE), the NHS Economic Evaluation Database (NHS EED) and the Health Technology Assessments database (HTA). It does not contain Cochrane Reviews - for this use the Cochrane Library.

Cochrane Library [electronic resource].
The Cochrane Library is designed to supply high quality evidence to inform health care decision-making.

CommunityWISE [electronic resource].
Contains community, charities and voluntary agency information. Data is provided by bodies such as Barnados, Community Development Foundation and the National Centre for Volunteering.

IBSS [electronic resource].
Updated weekly, with data going back to 1951. IBSS Online (International Bibliography of the Social Sciences) contains references to over 2400 selected journals and 7000 books per year.

Medline - via EBSCO [electronic resource].
The US National Library of Medicine's bibliographic database of over 16 million references from more than 5,000 biomedical journals published in the United States and 80 other countries. Subject coverage is from the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and the preclinical sciences, and is worldwide, but most records are from English-language sources or have English abstracts. Records date from the 1950's onwards, many include abstracts. The database includes links to some full text articles, but this is not a full text database.

National Research Register - NRR (NHS) [electronic resource].
This is the most comprehensive register of current research in the NHS and contains information about ongoing and recently completed research projects funded by the UK's National Health Service.

Psychology & Behavioral Sciences Collection [electronic resource].
Via EBSCOhost databases. Psychology & Behavioral Sciences Collection is a comprehensive database covering information concerning topics in emotional and behavioral characteristics, psychiatry & psychology, mental processes, anthropology, and observational & experimental methods. Has more than 420 full-text journals. Also links to full text from citations within PsycINFO.

RefWorks [electronic resource].
RefWorks is an online research management, writing and collaboration tool designed to help researchers easily gather, manage, store and share all types of information, as well as generate citations and bibliographies.

E-Books

Books@Ovid [electronic resource].
Books@Ovid platform with Made Incredibly Easy! which contains 38 e-books titles and Oxford Handbooks which contains 10 e-book titles.

Academic Onefile [electronic resource].
Academic OneFile is the premier source for peer-reviewed, full-text articles from the world's leading journals and reference sources. With extensive coverage of the physical sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, the arts, theology, literature and other subjects, Academic OneFile is both authoritative and comprehensive. With millions of articles available in both PDF and HTML full-text with no restrictions, researchers are able to find accurate information quickly. Includes full-text coverage of the New York Times back to 1995. Updated daily.

BioMed Central [electronic resource].
An independent publishing house providing free access to peer reviewed biomedical literature. It publishes over 50 on-line journals and also hosts affiliated journals.

Internurse [electronic resource].
Internurse.com is a Web site set up by the Mark Allan Publishing Group. It includes a searchable archive, to which we subscribe, of thousands of peer reviewed articles from British Journal of Nursing, British Journal of Midwifery etc

ProQuest Newspapers, Daily Telegraph, Financial Times, Guardian, Independent, Times [electronic resource].
Updated daily. Database of the Daily Mail & Mail on Sunday; Daily Telegraph & Sunday Telegraph; Evening Standard; Financial Times; Guardian & Observer; Times and Sunday Times; Independent. Coverage is from at least January 1998 onwards for all titles.

ScienceDirect (Science Direct) [electronic resource].
Database containing over 1000 full text journals from Elsevier Science and the leading scientific, technical and medical publishers. Covers life, physical, technical and social sciences.

Your Journals@Ovid [electronic resource].
Via Ovid. Access to databases and full text for the Healthcare and Academic communities.

Association of Public Health Observatories

Umbrella site for the Public Health Observatories which have been established as a result of the Government White Paper 'Saving lives: our healthier nation' to support local public health initiatives.

Community Practitioner's & Health Visitor's Association

The CPHVA website has been created to make information about the organisation and its work available on-line. It also provides a gateway to many other sites which provide information on community nursing, public health and primary health care.

Equip

Equip ( Electronic Quality Information for the Public) is a gateway to evaluated Patient Information on the Web.

Kings Fund
This is an independent charitable organisation and is not part of the NHS but has as its key aim the improvement of health especially in London.  Works towards this through a combination of research, policy analysis and development work.

London Health Observatory
One of the regional observatories established following the White Paper 'Saving lives: our healthier nation'. Key tasks in supporting local bodies include monitoring health/disease trends and highlighting areas for action; identifying gaps in health information and drawing together information from different sources in new ways; forecasting future health problems. NHS Evidence - National Library for Public Health

Formerly the National Library for Health specialist library for public health.

NHS Direct Online

Online companion to the telephone service providing high quality health information and advice for the people of England. It is supported by a 24-hour nurse advice and information helpline.  Wales and Scotland have equivalent services: NHS Direct Wales and NHS24 respectively.

NHS Health Scotland

This site focuses on the public health needs of Scotland, but includes some useful general material.

NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Evidence): Public Health Guidance

Recommendations for populations and individuals on activities, policies and strategies that can help prevent disease or improve health.

Nurse-led clinics

A community site aimed at nurses who wish to set up nurse-led clinics. Includes video clips, practical tips and background information on the subject.

Race Equality Foundation: Better Health

This site contains a number of freely-available evidenced-based papers with the intention of promoting equality and preventing discrimination.

Patient (UK)
Site aimed at consumers and non-medical people in particular but provides an excellent range of information and links on health issues.

Public Health Resource Unit

Established as an NHS unit in 1997, PHRU works alongside strategic health authorities and primary care trusts to support change and development within the NHS and other organisations in order to bring about improvements in health and healthcare.

RCN Public Health Forum

Regional Public Health Group for London (ERPHO)

Self-help UK
Searchable database of patient organisations throughout the UK. Also has links to various discussion forums.

World Health Organization
Information about the work of WHO, their programmes, publications, statistics and more.
