London Health Observatory
One of the regional observatories established following the White Paper 'Saving lives: our healthier nation'. Key tasks in supporting local bodies include monitoring health/disease trends and highlighting areas for action; identifying gaps in health information and drawing together information from different sources in new ways; forecasting future health problems. NHS Evidence - National Library for Public Health
Formerly the National Library for Health specialist library for public health.
Online companion to the telephone service providing high quality health information and advice for the people of England. It is supported by a 24-hour nurse advice and information helpline. Wales and Scotland have equivalent services: NHS Direct Wales and NHS24 respectively.
This site focuses on the public health needs of Scotland, but includes some useful general material.
NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Evidence): Public Health Guidance
Recommendations for populations and individuals on activities, policies and strategies that can help prevent disease or improve health.
A community site aimed at nurses who wish to set up nurse-led clinics. Includes video clips, practical tips and background information on the subject.
Race Equality Foundation: Better Health
This site contains a number of freely-available evidenced-based papers with the intention of promoting equality and preventing discrimination.

Site aimed at consumers and non-medical people in particular but provides an excellent range of information and links on health issues.
Established as an NHS unit in 1997, PHRU works alongside strategic health authorities and primary care trusts to support change and development within the NHS and other organisations in order to bring about improvements in health and healthcare.
