Anatomy TV [electronic resource].
Interactive 3D model of human anatomy.

Core Bibliographic E-resources

British Nursing Index (BNI) [electronic resource].
Provides references to journal articles, some conference papers and major reports on aspects of education and training, from the UK and some English language international titles. Starts in 1976 and covers all levels and ages.

CINAHL [electronic resource].
Cinahl indexes over 1600 nursing and allied health journals, and has an international coverage. It is updated weekly. This is the best database to use for an in-depth search, although we do not have access to all the journals covered.

Maternity & Infant Care [electronic resource].
Contains over 120,000 references. Included are abstracts from over 550 international English language journals, books, and grey literature. Topics include the midwifery profession, pregnancy, labour, birth, postnatal care, neonatal care and the first year of an infants life. Database coverage is from the mid 1980s onwards and approximately 1000 records are added to the database per month. The database also includes correspondence and commentary written in response to an article.

Background Bibliographic E-resources

Centre for Reviews and Dissemination [electronic resource].
CRD produces and promotes the use of research based knowledge in health and social care. It enables you to search the Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects (DARE), the NHS Economic Evaluation Database (NHS EED) and the Health Technology Assessments database (HTA). It does not contain Cochrane Reviews - for this use the Cochrane Library.

Cochrane Library [electronic resource].
The Cochrane Library is designed to supply high quality evidence to inform health care decision-making.

Medline - via EBSCO [electronic resource].
The US National Library of Medicine's bibliographic database of over 16 million references from more than 5,000 biomedical journals published in the United States and 80 other countries. Subject coverage is from the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and the preclinical sciences, and is worldwide, but most records are from English-language sources or have English abstracts. Records date from the 1950's onwards, many include abstracts. The database includes links to some full text articles, but this is not a full text database.

Books@Ovid [electronic resource].
Books@Ovid platform with Made Incredibly Easy! which contains 38 e-books titles and Oxford Handbooks which contains 10 e-book titles.

Journal Collections and Newspapers

Academic Onefile [electronic resource].
Academic OneFile is the premier source for peer-reviewed, full-text articles from the world's leading journals and reference sources. With extensive coverage of the physical sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, the arts, theology, literature and other subjects, Academic OneFile is both authoritative and comprehensive. With millions of articles available in both PDF and HTML full-text with no restrictions, researchers are able to find accurate information quickly. Includes full-text coverage of the New York Times back to 1995. Updated daily.

Intermid [electronic resource].
Intermid.co.uk is a website set up by Mark Allen Publishing Group. It includes a searchable archive, to which we subscribe, which includes peer-reviewed articles from both the British Journal of Midwifery (full text from 1996 to the present), and the African Journal of Midwifery & Women's Health, a new title, which began in October 2007. For indexes covering many more midwifery journal articles search the databases at the top of this screen, under Core Bibliographic E-Resources.

ProQuest Newspapers, Daily Telegraph, Financial Times, Guardian, Independent, Times [electronic resource].
Updated daily. Database of the Daily Mail & Mail on Sunday; Daily Telegraph & Sunday Telegraph; Evening Standard; Financial Times; Guardian & Observer; Times and Sunday Times; Independent. Coverage is from at least January 1998 onwards for all titles.

ScienceDirect (Science Direct) [electronic resource].
Database containing over 1000 full text journals from Elsevier Science and the leading scientific, technical and medical publishers. Covers life, physical, technical and social sciences.

Internet for Nursing, Midwifery & Health Visiting
If you want to improve your searching skills on the Internet this online self-teaching tutorial is highly recommended. It provides guidance on different types of resources, different types of search tools and how to use them effectively, with plenty of specific examples. Quality issues and common pitfalls are also dealt with and a series of scenarios expand upon the practicalities of using the Internet productively.

NeLH Professional Portals

This portal is relevant to specific professions, is designed to support the clinical information needs of busy professionals. They bring together some high quality resources and links to professional and statutory bodies + relevant Internet discussion lists. NeLH welcomes feedback on the content.
Midwifery portal

NMAP
NMAP is the new free gateway to evaluated, quality Internet resources in nursing, midwifery and the allied health professions. Aimed at students, researchers, academics and practitioners it enables users to get quick and efficient access to reliable health information.

Nursing and Midwifery Council
In operation from April 2002 in place of the former UKCC and ENB. Its core function is to establish and improve standards of nursing, midwifery and health visiting care. Included in its activities are the maintenance of the professional register and setting standards and guidelines for education, practice and conduct.

Royal College of Midwives
Site contains a searchable 'Information Centre' with links to full text documents such as reports and RCM briefings. Also has a news, views and events section + information about the library service and lists of journal and dissertation holdings.
