e that aims to meet the needs of your business.
The Aims of the Service Are:
- To increase the employability of our students by developing their experience and skills through relevant work experience.
- Build awareness across a range of sectors & industries about employability and diversity through work placements and work experience.
- Develop partnership opportunities with businesses.
Placement Options:
- One year - this would take place in the 3rd year of your degree.
- Part-time - if you are on a course that doesn't cater for a year out in industry, this is a great way to combine studying and working at the same time.
- Summer - these tend to start from July onwards for a period of 10-12 weeks.
- Short term/project based - this could be for a 3-6 month period again during your course of study, or you could do two 6 month placements.
Steps to Using the Service & Finding a Placement:
- If you would like to do a placement, you will need to register with our service by attending a Quick Query session.
- Make sure you bring a copy of your CV to the session!
- Once your CV has been checked, you will be given the username and password for our online JobShop website, enabling you to view and apply for any current placement vacancies.
- Be sure to check the JobShop website daily for new vacancies, as well as your personal email for Job Alerts from the placement service.
Additional Information:
- The information on your application form, CV and covering letter is the only information an employer has about you - take time to edit for poor grammar and spelling mistakes.
- We have a wide range of resources to assist you in this area. You can also consult the Skills for Learning department for additional support.
- Be as resourceful as possible - use the JobShop, as well as other directories to find out about companies and their career options; send speculative applications and register with other placement providers who help students find placements. Click here for details of these companies.
