Webroot Email Spam Filter Services

LSBU uses a company called Webroot, which is managed by Altman Technologies, to carry out email filtering for known spam and viruses before they reach our mailboxes.

This service is available to all LSBU users and new staff users should follow the instructions in their "Welcome Message" if they wish to log on to the Console and manage their own "tagged" messages. Students also need to activate their account as this is not an automatic process, again follow instructions in your Welcome Message.

If you have not activated your personal logon, you should activate your account by logging on to https://login10.emailsystems.com/user/ using your LSBU Email address (to include any mail alias if you use one) and follow the instructions - End User Instructions [DOC 30KB opens new window]

All users who have activated their account will receive a Daily Report from Altman Technologies Ltd. giving statistics of filtered spam mail and a link to logon to the Console to check these messages. If you do not get any spam in the preceeding 24 hours then you will not receive a report.

Your daily message will look something like this Inbox screen shot. You can use the link to logon to the Console and manage your messages. The reason the message has been stopped is shown in the far right 4 columns and these reasons are explained at a Spam Codes explained. Please NOTE that any message stopped due to a quarantine tag means you should search the tab Image Scanning to find and release the message.

How do your correct mistakes?

  • If you have activated your personal Logon to your own account you can use the Allow/Deny Service now available to each individual user. This allows each user to set their own preferences for messages they would like to allow or deny relevant to their work.
    Follow the instructions at http://www.lsbu.ac.uk/ict/email/AllowDeny.shtml
  • If you find a message in your Daily Report that you think has been incorrectly marked "spam" you can correct this by logging on to your Personal Console as noted above.
  • If you receive a lot of unwanted spam messages in any one day, you may send them as attachments to the ICT Email Team. See instructions at How To Train Spam Messages . Note that messages more than a week old are no longer valid, so you must do this as soon as you can, otherwise simply delete them.

Tagged Mssages are stored as follows before being deleted :-

  • Messages are stored 21 days
  • Spam, Quarantine,Image Scanning are stored 7 days after time they will be deleted if not released.
  • Pending messages try to deliver for 7 days and if still unable to deliver they will be returned to sender
  • Your feedback on these services is always welcome, please email The ICT Email Team with any comments you wish to make. If you have any queries please do not contact Altman direct as you will only be re-directed back to the ICT Email Team. Thanks!
