Learn in state-of-the-art skills labs

Our strengths

To enable allied health students to gain the necessary skills to practise and develop in their chosen career, much of the allied health learning takes place in a range of clinical or simulated environments. K2 houses a suite of modern skills laboratories such as Digital Imaging, VERT (virtual radiotherapy), Activity of Daily Living, Physiotherapy as well as an Acupuncture clinic.

In a recent review the department was commended for consistently seeking students' opinions and acting on what they say. As well as responding to its students the department is also recognised across the allied health sciences for developing innovative study programmes that reflect changes currently happening in the workplace. Its Foundation degrees in Diagnostic Imaging, Rehabilitation Therapy and Peri-operative Practice are clear examples of this. Other significant examples include post-graduate programmes in Musculoskeletal Management and Adult Cardiac Catheter Laboratory Practice.

Our Confucius Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine is an innovative and exciting partnership between LSBU and cultural and higher education agencies from China. Our Chinese Medicine: Acupuncture course is unusual in that it covers the areas of Chinese culture that impact on Traditional Chinese Medicine. Students are also taught Mandarin and spend a period of the course studying in China.
