Home undergraduate part-time students

If you are a Home undergraduate student studying part-time, financial help may be available towards your fees and other course related costs in the form of a Fee Grant and Course Grant.

Tuition fees

Standard fees for part-time students for the academic year 2009-2010 are £310 per (15 credit) unit. A part-time student normally studies four but no more than six standard units per academic year.

Our part-time fees have been discounted to ensure that you enjoy the same level of financial support that the LSBU Annual Bursary offers full-time students.

Additional fees

Some courses include compulsory field trips or residentials, the cost of which is added to your total tuition fee. In addition some optional units include field trips or residentials that you will be asked to pay for separately.

Your course may require you to attend other teaching sessions outside the University for which you may be required to pay an additional fee. Some courses, for example HNCs, require registration with an external body for which a fee is also payable.

Help towards fees and course costs

You may be eligible for an income assessed, non-repayable Fee Grant and Course Grant to help with the costs of your tuition fees and other course costs, such as books and traveling expenses. The amount you are awarded will depend on both your income and the intensity of your course. Intensity means how long it takes to complete your course compared to an equivalent full-time course. Students who already have a degree cannot apply for this help. There is no age limit.

How much fee and course grant you can get each year also depends on your household income and whether you have a partner or children. However, even if you are granted the maximum level of part-time Fee Grant it will not cover the total cost of your yearly tuition fees.

Fee Grant

The maximum amount of fee grant available depends on the "intensity of study" of your course. As an example, the intensity of study of a six year part-time course compared to a three year full-time course would be 50%.

The Fee Grant you are awarded is paid directly to the University. You do not have to pay it back.

Course Grant

The maximum amount of course grant available in 2009-2010 is £260 a year. The Course Grant is paid directly to you in a single payment.

Maximum support available from Fee and Course Grants in 2009-2010
Intensity of study Maximum Fee Grant Maximum Course Grant Total maximum support
50%-59% of equivalent full-time course £805 £260 £1,065
60%-74% of equivalent full-time course £970 £260 £1,230
75% or more of equivalent full-time course £1,210 £260 £1,470

The amount of support you receive each year will also depend on your household income and whether you have a partner or children.
