Payment of fees

Different payment dates and arrangements apply depending on which type of student you are. See the category below that best describes you.

Self-funding students

This section applies to undergraduate overseas students and our home/EU and overseas postgraduate students.

Self-funding students studying for a whole year (2 semesters) can choose to either pay in full or by an initial down payment followed by four equal instalments. If you pay in full you may be entitled to an early settlement discount.

When you enrol it is essential that you either:

  • pay the full fee plus any registration fee, or
  • pay the initial down payment of one third of the fee plus the full amount of any registration fee. (The remaining four instalments, amounting to a sixth of the fee each are due on the dates given below).

Early settlement discounts

If you are enrolling for a whole year's study, are self-funding and pay in full by the full payment dates set out above you may be entitled to an early settlement discount of 5% of your years course fee.

The discount is not applicable if you receive an LSBU Scholarship, any other LSBU Discount or Bursary or for registration fees. The discount is applicable on that part of your fee that you pay directly to the University. The discount is not applicable to any part of the fee paid by a sponsor or any other third party or if your Tuition Fee contribution is not paid in full at the point of face-to-face enrolment. The discount does not apply to Home or EU full-time undergraduates. See a copy of our Tuition Fee Regulations (PDF 122KB, opens in new window) for more details on part self-funding/part sponsored students.

Full-time Home and EU undergraduates

If you are a Home or EU student, advice and applications for maintenance, Tuition Fee loans and other support should be made online through Student Finance England. Details on the Gov.uk website. The support you are entitled to will differ depending on whether you are eligible for the new or old package of student support. You will be sent a Financial Notification setting out your entitlements.

New students will be given the option to take out a loan for your Tuition Fees. You must tell Student Finance England as part of your application form how much Tuition Fee Loan you wish to borrow. Any amount you do not borrow is payable at your published face-to-face enrolment session.

Payment arrangements

As a new student, you'll need to supply the University with your Payment Advice, which sets out the following:

  1. your Course Fee
  2. your Tuition Fee Loan amount
  3. the amount of Tuition Fee Grant you have been awarded
  4. the amount you pay to your University

You will be asked to pay any amount shown in point 4, plus any other fees that your course may attract (i.e. registration and CRB fees) at your face-to-face enrolment session. Tuition Fee Support does not cover field trip costs.

Some new students may not have received their Payment Advice at the time of enrolment. If this applies to you the University will ask you to confirm how much Tuition Fee loan you have applied for (or intend to apply for). Any amount you do not borrow will be payable at enrolment.

You will remain personally responsible for payment of fees and charges, even if there is an arrangement for the University to receive payment on your behalf from the Students Loans Company.

Part-time Home and EU undergraduates

If you are a Home or EU student studying a part-time undergraduate first degree in 2012/13 you may be eligible for a non income-assessed Tuition Fee loan up to a maximum of £6,750. You must be studying at an intensity of 25% of the full-time equivalent per year, taking no more than four times the time it would take to complete the course if studied full time (up to a maximum of 16 years). See the Gov.uk website for details of financial help for part-time students.

You will need to show evidence of your Tuition Fee loan at your face-to-face enrolment session. If you are unable to show such evidence at this time you will need to pay at least the initial down-payment of a third of your yearly Tuition Fee.

It is your responsibility to contact Student Finance England to make sure your application is processed and you receive a letter confirming your fee loan entitlement. The final date by which you will need to provide evidence of your student support funding loan is 14 December 2012. Students not eligible for the part-time fee loan can pay as self-funded, sponsored or part self/sponsored students.
