We have developed opto-thermal methods for measuring stratum corneum hydration properties, trans-dermal diffusion of externally applied substances (toxins and drugs) and stratum corneum renewal time.
We have invented a new condenser-chamber method for measuring water vapour flux density from arbitrary surfaces. This has been patented and developed into a commercial instrument, Aquaflux, by Biox Systems Ltd, a university spin-out company. Its applications include the measurement of trans-epidermal water loss in human skin, a pivotal quantity that characterises it’s protective barrier property and therefore its health.
Here we adapt semiconductor array fingerprint skin sensors to image skin properties including hydration, skin micro relief and 3D surface profiles.
