Research

The Faculty has a strong culture of research in selective areas of engineering, applied science and the built environment. We are one of the most successful post 1992 universities for research and this is reflected in our excellent performance in the last Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). From the assessment we are now ranked as one of the UK's top 20 universities for research.

Our work is highly interdisciplinary and collaborative, with strong national and international links

We have a strong record of generating external income from a wide range of sources including Research Councils, the European Union, industry, government and charities. Our work is highly interdisciplinary and collaborative, with strong national and international links. The applied nature of our research reflects our strong links with industry and the leading contribution we make to the University's position as the foremost provider of Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) in London and one of the nation's leaders.

We work very closely with our industry partners, often developing commercially driven leading edge solutions to real life problems. Our clients include blue chip organisations such as Tesco, British Nuclear Fuels Limited (BNFL) and SMEs (small medium enterprises) alike.

Many of our academics are of world class standing, are consistently featured in national and international media and recognised by many prestigious external organisations and awards.

Ours is a vibrant and supportive environment which allows our students to flourish whilst building on their research skills. We are centrally located in London and welcome and support research students from around the world.

The diversity and strengths of our research activities are reflected in our rolling programme of research seminars. We have an extensive research infrastructure including a new £2.8M Centre for Renewable and Efficient Energy in Buildings (CEREB).
