
Through our Knowledges Transfer (KT) programmes we partner commercial companies to put our academic expertise for exploitable benefits. We are one of the UK's leading KT providers and won the collaborative Innovation Excellence Award at the recent London Knowledge Transfer Awards. We are also among a handful of universities that have been commended by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) for our KT work.

The Centre for Knowledge Transfer runs a wide variety of Knowledge Transfer programmes that are designed to improve the competitiveness and productivity of business by harnessing the academic expertise inherent within the university. Knowledge Transfer programmes are designed to help businesses improve their competitiveness and productivity by tapping into the knowledge, technology and skills offered by universities.
Two LSBU projects have recently received a rare and highly praised Grade A from the Technology Strategy Board. Only 7% of UK projects receive a Grade A so this is a huge achievement. Environmental Engineers 'Fulcrum Consulting' have pioneered ground energy systems in the UK. Now Fulcrum is the lead in providing consultancy services for all types of ground coupled cooling and heating.
The other project is Industrial Design Consultants' (IDC) design, manufacture and testing of a solar-powered jet-pump refrigerator through a KTP partnership with LSBU. This novel, autonomous and solar-powered 50W jet-pump 'fridge will be used for cooling vaccine applications in remote regions.
