Graduation and beyond
The University organises a number of graduation ceremonies each year for students who have successfully completed their course of academic study. Graduation is the opportunity to recognise your achievements; to celebrate the occasion with your family, friends and sponsors and to thank them for their encouragement and support.
Our graduates are our best ambassadors

Invitations
Students graduating in 2012 will be notified of the time and date of their graduation ceremony via email or letter.
- Letter invites will be sent by the end of February 2012 for students from the Faculty of Health and Social Care (HSC).
- Email invites will be sent by the end of May 2012 for students from the faculties of Arts and Human Sciences (AHS); Business (BUS); Engineering and the Built Environment (ESBE).
We anticipate all students will pass their final year examinations. A graduation invitation letter or email is therefore sent out to all students who are potentially eligible to graduate.
If you do not receive a graduation invitation letter or email and believe you are potentially eligible to attend a graduation ceremony please contact the Events team as spaces for the event are limited, do not wait until you have received your results as this may be too late to book a place for you and your guests.
Registering for graduation does not automatically mean that you are eligible to attend the graduation ceremony. In the unlikely event that you do not complete your course, and are not eligble to attend the graduation ceremony, we will cancel your booking (and refund any guest tickets purchased) and you will be invited to attend a future event.
Are you eligible to attend the ceremony?
All students are eligible to attend the graduation ceremony when they have successfully completed their course of studies and have no outstanding debts with the University.
It is the responsibility of each student to find out their results. Students who have completed their studies will be informed of their results by a Final Results Letter issued from Faculty offices.
Final Results letters will give the Examination Board Decision which could be:
- either the Degree awarded and Classification
- or that a student has been deferred, referred or have extra assessments to take
If a student has been deferred, referred or has extra assignments to take the student has not completed their course of studies and is therefore not eligible to attend a graduation ceremony until they have done so.
If for any reason your results have been withheld you should contact the Fees and Bursaries Office.
Certificates and your personal details
Degree Award Certificates are not issued on the day of the ceremony. They are sent by recorded delivery to a graduate's permanent address approximately twelve weeks after awards have been made by the exam board.
Graduate names printed on award certificates will be the same as those on the Final Results Letter. If you change your name or address you will need to follow the procedures for changing personal details and inform the University immediately.
Only one original certificate is issued to graduates. However, a replacement copy can be provided for a charge.
