Email

Once you receive your student ID number you are entitled to activate your IT account. Your IT account includes a personal email account which you should use for all correspondence with the University. Having registered online, you will be given details of your username, email address and confirmation of your password.

The format for your email address is: username@lsbu.ac.uk

Outlook Live and Skydrive

If you are a new student , you can access your email by logging into Outlook Live, where you can also access your SkyDrive (online storage space). Your Windows Live ID is your full LSBU email address - username@lsbu.ac.uk

If you are a returning/existing student, continue to access your email by logging into Outlook Web Access (OWA).

Your LSBU email address will be used by the University for all email correspondence with you. It is your responsibility to check your email frequently to keep up-to-date with University-related communications. Email services and facilities must be used in compliance with the University's email regulations and guidelines, and guidance governing the use of ICT services.

About Outlook Live

If you are a new student, you can access your email by using a browser, such as Internet Explorer, to logon to Outlook Live and your SkyDrive (online storage space) at http://outlook.com/lsbu.ac.uk.

Your SkyDrive is accessible through your Outlook Live account. It gives you 25GB of online storage space, accessible via the web. Files in you SkyDrive can be kept private, shared with specific people or shared with everyone. Anything you place in your SkyDrive is not automatically backed up by ICT or Microsoft. If files on your SkyDrive are deleted, they cannot be recovered. You are advised to keep backups of important files, such as course work, on a personal USB stick. The University provides a limited amount of network storage space (50MB in your your I:Drive) for student documents in transit.

Outlook Web Access

If you are a returning/existing student, continue to access your email by using a browser, such as Internet Explorer, to logon to Outlook Web Access (OWA) at mail.lsbu.ac.uk.

Redirecting or forwarding your email

You should use your personal LSBU email account for all email correspondence with the University. We do not recommend that you redirect or forward your email to an alternative address, such as a Google or Yahoo address. The University cannot be held responsible for the handling of email by external email service providers.

Spam and junk mail

Spam, also known as junk email, unsolicited commercial email (UCE) or unsolicited bulk email (UBE) can become a major problem for email users. To prevent your inbox from filling with spam, activate your account with the Anti Spam Service and manage your spam by following the instructions for Webroot Email Spam Filter Services.

All external email messages sent from University accounts will automatically have an email disclaimer added, as follows:

"This e-mail message may be confidential and is intended only for the use of the individual(s) to whom it is addressed. It may contain information which is or may be confidential, non-public or legally privileged. Please do not disseminate or distribute this message other than to its intended recipient without permission of the author. You should not copy it or use it for any purpose nor disclose its contents to any other person. If you have received this message in error, please notify me by email immediately and delete the original message and all copies in your computer systems."
