The University actively encourages students to develop their business ideas, skills, knowledge and expertise. Two key services are available to students with enterprising and innovative ideas:
- Research and Business Development Office (RBDO) - provides business development support for students
- London Knowledge Innovation Centre (LKIC) - the University's new business incubator for students who want to commercialise their innovative ideas.

Student Entrepreneurship Support at LSBU provides expert support to help you develop your business concept, social enterprise or freelance career through running a variety of events, including masterclasses, workshops, one to one sessions, competitions and networking events.

The Enterprise Associate Scheme
Each year the RBDO supports a limited number of the University's entrepreneurial students, through its innovative Enterprise Associate scheme, to explore and develop the commercial potential of their final year projects.
The Enterprise Associate Scheme is competitive and is open to all final year students at the University who believe they have a commercial idea or product.
Successful applicants receive a bursary for 18 months as well as support with Intellectual Property matters, business mentoring, a computer and office space.
Enterprise Associates are also required to enrol on the University’s MSc in Enterprise by Learning Contract programme. The fees for this course are met by the RBDO.

The RBDO provides information, support and guidance to students for any issues to do with protecting their intellectual property.

London Knowledge Innovation Centre (LKIC)
If you have an innovative business idea, LKIC wants to hear from you.
LKIC is the University's new business incubator. Set up in 2006 by LSBU and Southwark's business enterprise agency, Business Extra, LKIC provides support for LSBU students and staff who want to turn their innovative ideas into a successful business venture.
LKIC helps bridge the knowledge and skills gaps of innovators and inventors by providing a range of business and innovation support services through the Centre's experienced staff.
LKIC's services include:
- strategic advice, including monthly progress meetings with your dedicated business advisor
- intellectual property advice
- marketing consultancy, including product positioning
- support with raising funds
- virtual offices, desk space, fully refurbished offices, and meeting rooms for hire
- access to an extensive network of contacts
- book keeping and training.
