Blackboard

Blackboard is the University's Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) which supports e-learning - the delivery of learning materials and communication facilities over an electronic medium. Blackboard provides you with a flexible learning environment you can connect to through the Internet, day or night, on or off campus.

Blackboard features

Blackboard is a Web-based integrated teaching and learning environment which enables students and tutors to:

  • interact via the Internet
  • share learning resources
  • communicate and collaborate
  • evaluate progress.

Blackboard features include:

  • access to learning materials and Unit Guides
  • communication between individuals, groups and the whole class through discussion boards, email and a virtual classroom which includes a chat facility
  • group areas for collaborative work
  • links to other websites and University resources.

What you need to access Blackboard

You need a University IT account to log in to Blackboard. All fully enrolled students who have obtained their student ID number are entitled to register for an IT account.

Start using Blackboard

If you have a University IT account you can start using Blackboard.

To use Blackboard you need a computer with Internet access and a Web browser. Java and cookies should be enabled. You can check your browser is set up correctly by using the 'Test your browser tool' on the Blackboard login page.

If you are an HSC student you can access your course materials by registering for 'The Community' site using the enrolment access code given to you by your tutor. For further informaiton on how to register download Accessing Blackboard (HSC) (PDF 793KB - opens in new window).
