IT resources
IT facilities and services are provided at the University's two campuses: Southwark and LSBU at Havering.
At the Learning Resources Centre (LRC), and other open access study areas, you can use computers, the Internet, networked services and an extensive range of software and peripheral equipment, including scanners and printers. Many of the University's IT and information resources can be accessed from home via the Internet, from halls of residence, or by using a wireless connection in designated areas.
LSBU students should log on to IT resources using their IT account username and password to access the full range of facilities and services they are entitled to use. Some open access facilities allow you to log on as a visitor to register for your IT account or gain access as a guest. You will need a valid ID card to gain entry to University buildings.

If you have an LSBU IT account and a valid ID card you can use the Pcounter printing system. This enables you to place printing credits on your ID card which you use to release print jobs. If you cannot use Pcounter for any reason you can log on as a visitor and print by purchasing and placing credits on a Flexicard.
Printing credits are availabe from the LRC and Library helpdesks, the vending machines in the LRC and London Road or online via our Print Payment System.
For more information and specific details visit our LRC website.
For information on printing costs and printer locations visit Printing in the LRC and Library Services webpages.
Other departments may charge different rates. Please check with your departmental technicians.
Connect to resources from halls of residence
Every bedroom in University residences is equipped with an Ethernet data point enabling you to connect your own computer to the Internet and University intranet, free of charge. Once you have connected you will also be able to access your LSBU email account, library and information services, and make FTP and TELNET connections to the UNIX server. However, you will not be able to access the I:drive associated with your IT account.
The ICT Department website gives further information about remote access from halls of residence, including details about connection settings, service policies and the range of resources students can access.
Connect to resources from off campus
You can use the Internet to access many of the University's web-based services, such as Blackboard, the Student Gateway and a wide range of quality academic databases and full text electronic journals provided by the library service. Many library resources are restricted to LSBU students with a current library record and you will be asked to enter your username and password to access many of these services off campus.
You can work off campus and access files on shared dirves or your personal I:drive by using the virtual private network.
The ICT Department website gives further information about off campus access to services.
