1st4sport Level Two Award in Coaching Football

Overview

The qualification is designed to provide you with the practical and theoretical aspects of coaching football, including how to effectively plan, conduct and evaluate football coaching sessions for players of all ages. The qualification is composed of eight mandatory units giving you 20 credits.

The qualification is recognised as the industry standard level 2 qualification for coaching football by the national governing body for Football in England, The Football Association. The FA is also the professional body for football coaches, providing services and support to those who hold this and other football qualifications.

It is also recognised by, and has the support of, a range of employers including the County Football Associations, Football Clubs, schools and colleges, as the sole qualification for those looking to progress their career in coaching football. The qualification is also endorsed by the lead agency for coaching, sports coach UK, as meeting its UKCC criteria.

The qualification is designed to prepare coaches for employment in paid or voluntary roles as a football coach in local amateur junior/senior clubs, FA Charter Standard clubs and schools, local authority community football schemes and Football in the Community Schemes.

These courses are held within the Academy of Sport facilities at London South Bank University and nearby outdoor venues for the practical elements.

As an LSBU student you have access to the Employability Service and its resources during your time here and for two years after you graduate.

Our Employability Service will support you in developing your skills, finding a job, interview techniques, work experience or a placement/internship, and will help you assess what you need to do to get the career you want at the end of your course. LSBU offers a comprehensive Employability Service, with a range of initiatives to complement your studies, including:

  • Direct engagement from employers who come in to network with students
  • Job Shop – daily drop in service to help with, tailoring CVs, cover letters and applications, sourcing online resource, mock interviews and general job searching. One to one appointments for further support also available
  • Mentoring and work shadowing schemes
  • Higher education achievement report - The HEAR is designed to encourage a more sophisticated approach to recording student achievement, which acknowledges fully the range of opportunities that LSBU offers to our students.
    It pulls into one certificate: Module grades, Course descriptions, Placements, LSBU verified extra-curricular activities
  • Employability workshops - delivered free to students all year round on a variety of related topics
  • Careers fairs throughout the year to really focus your thoughts on a career after university

Teaching and learning

Entry requirements

You must have completed  the Level 1 Award in Coaching Football and you need to be  at least 16 years of age. You will also need to have completed The FA Learning Online ‘Laws of the Game’ Module and, usually provided as part of the programme of learning, to hold an FA Emergency Aid Certificate and have attended The FA workshop ‘Safeguarding Children in Football’ (learners under the age of 18 years are eligible to complete an alternative to the workshop).

How to apply

To book your place on the course, download and complete the booking form and return by email to coachingcourses@lsbu.ac.uk.

Applications will be accepted on a first come first served basis, your place will only be confirmed on receipt of full payment and completion of the application form.

Once you have returned the booking form, you can pay by card at our online store or come into the LSBU Sports Centre to pay in person.
