Developing your study skills can ease your path through University and improve your chances of success both at University and in the job market later on.

We are based in Southwark Campus but also offer sessions at Havering and Whipps Cross campuses.

Whatever course you are taking, the Skills for Learning Team offers a programme of study skills sessions designed to help you at all stages of your academic career. However good your study skills are, there is usually room for improvement!


Services for Students

  • One to one sessions for support on any issue
  • Maths workshops
  • Maths sessions for specific purposes e.g. drug calculations for nursing students
  • Five-week courses on a range of topics, including Writing, Grammar, Speaking and Postgraduate Writing
  • Drop-in workshops on topics such as effective reading, avoiding plagiarism, oral presentation skills, essay and report writing and exam technique
  • Open workshops in Communication Skills

Services for Staff

  • We provide one-off tailored skills sessions for students
  • We provide talks to groups of staff about the services we provide
  • We are happy to discuss any skills topic with academic staff on a one-to-one basis
  • We can offer specific guidance on embedding Maths and Communication Skills Development within the curriculum
  • We offer a central point of contact for academic staff to discuss Maths and Communication Skills Development for specific purposes
