Stella Flemmy, BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance, internship

BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance student Stella Flemmy has embraced every opportunity to maximise her employability upon graduation

Stella was already active in Accounting and Finance student societies on campus, which ran meet-up days with staff from different companies who came to talk about their specific roles. These societies also invited staff from recruitment agencies to give talks on the things graduates need to know when looking for jobs upon graduation.

Internship with LSBU

Clearly keen to maximise every opportunity that came her way, Stella jumped at the chance to apply for an internship at LSBU following a presentation to her class by a member of the Employability team. She says the highlight of her time at LSBU so far has been this internship with LSBU's Finance department.

"During my internship, I worked in Procurement, Accounts Payable, Financial Accounting and Financial Planning and Reporting and Enterprise. The rotations were very helpful. This helped me to determine what aspect of finance suits my skill set and strengths.

Internship Development Days

Stella sees the most valuable aspects of the internship to be the Development Days for Excel skills and Presentation skills.

"The Excel training allowed us to refresh some of the techniques that we hadn't frequently used in Excel. The Presentation Skills training was an amazing way to bolster our confidence."

"I would definitely recommend other students to apply for these internships as I have gained lots of professional experience. It gave me the opportunity to meet members of staff in senior positions that I would never have otherwise met, and I was able to understand the roles they are currently carrying out all of this was great for my confidence. My internship will make a huge difference to my CV when I graduate."
