
The third International Social Innovation Research Conference (ISIRC) took place here at London South Bank University on 12 and 13 September 2011. It was organised by Professor Alex Murdock with the invaluable support of Safron Drew and her colleagues from the Research and Business Development Office. The conference committee included academics from leading universities in the UK. Jane Houzer, Dean of the Business School opened the conference and welcomed the delegates.
ISIRC is an open conference that brings together scholars from around the globe to discuss the role of innovation in social businesses, social movements, not-for-profits, state actors, and the broader social economy. On this occasion it attracted more than ninety delegates from as far as Japan, New Zealand and Australia.

The two days created lots of good debate and many who attended found the conference very enjoyable. When asked what they benefited from the most from attending the conference, one delegate replied ‘finding the 'community of interest', networking, new research and interesting methods. It has been very inspiring’.
Another commented ‘many thanks for all you have done to make the conference so successful. I thought it was the best conference I have been to on social enterprise, bridging theory and practice well’.
