Proteomics and Genomics
Unit Aims
The human genome project is arguably
the most important scientific enquiry ever undertaken. This unit describes how
it has been accomplished and how the information gathered can be put to use
in human health and disease.
The aims of this unit are
- To provide a knowledge of protein
structure.
- To provide an outline knowledge
of the human genome and how its structure was uncovered.
- To acquire an understanding of
the mechanisms and prediction of protein folding, and assembly.
- To acquire an understanding of
the concepts and methodologies, theory and applications, economic and commercial
viability and current and possible future applications of protein engineering.
- To acquire an understanding of
the human genome project and its associated bioinformatics and proteomics.
