Placements

We encourage students on our Tourism and Hospitality Management programmes to do a year-long industry placement after two years of study. The placement not only gives them valuable work experience but also develops the 'soft skills' needed in the workplace and valued by employers such as team working, listening, oral and written communication and problem solving.

Zuzana Kucerova, 2nd Year Tourism and Hospitality student talks about how the placement scheme has helped her prepare for full time employment.

As one of the world's leading tourist destinations and a thriving capital city, London is the ideal place to study tourism, hospitality and leisure management. With many of the top employers based here our students have access to some of the best work placements in the business.

I spent my placement year working at Movenpick Resorts in Dubai. It was a pre-opening year so I got intense training for the first few months and then in operation I got to work in reception and guest relations. I can honestly say that it was the best year of my life, and I learnt so much about the industry.

LSBU has excellent links around the world to help find the right placements for our students. You could find yourself in an international hotel chain, airline, tour operator, country club, resort or tourist board. We have an agreement with Michigan University in the USA whereby they train our placement students who work in the Disney Resorts in California and Florida. You are supported throughout the year with visits, newsletters and other ad hoc communication. If you encounter any problems the placement team will help you.
