We recognise how important it is for us to prepare our students for pursuing their career after graduation. We endeavour to give all of our students a developed sense of professionalism to assist with this. Through this we also expose them to a working environment to enable them to appreciate and be a part of the law in practice.
Following the revalidation of our LLB (Hons) course in 2009 we introduced the compulsory module, 'Working in the Law', for all our second year full-time and part-time students. The module focuses on the attributes and skills the profession requires. As an integral part of it we encourage and assist our students to obtain relevant work placements and volunteering opportunities.
Our students have enjoyed successful placements within a varied range of organisations including:
These placements create valuable opportunities and experiences students draw upon, reflect within their personal development and provide preparation for future employability.
- Olga Astanina, LLB LawThis work experience gave me an insight into how the public sector functions, and most importantly, the role they play in influencing and regulating the society of Southwark. The opportunity to work in the legal department gave me the chance to mix with a variety of different people dealing with different aspects of law.
