We develop our courses to provide our students with the practical and theoretical skills which enable them to achieve our shared vision of excellence in education. Our teacher training courses are accredited by the Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills (OFSTED). In our 2010 OFSTED inspection, we were awarded Grade 1 across all strands of teacher training for the promotion of equality and diversity.

A thread which runs through all our courses is a focus on issues of equality, inclusion, and sustainability. For example, in our PGCE programmes we offer an Alternative Educational Setting module where students take placements in alternative settings such as prison schools or other specialist providers, NGOs or overseas, allowing them to reflect on the purposes of education and their role as a teacher in the classroom.
Our department also sees pastoral care for students as being very important. For example, on our PGCE courses, there is a strong tutorial system which ensures that students feel well supported throughout their course.
